About Us
Trudy Gardner, Certified Dog Trainer and Owner of Half Moon Bay Dogs and Larry Johnson, a lifelong animal lover, left California in 2016, relocating to Redmond, Oregon to pursue their dream of opening of a daycare, boarding and training facility where dogs can be free to be dogs!
Trudy started out as a TV and radio personality as a correspondent for the NBA’s show “Inside Stuff” as well as hosting her own ESPN show called “Unbelievable Sports, a career highlight! After 20 years in the business, she felt something was missing and made the difficult decision to change direction. In 2003, she opened Half Moon Bay Dogs, a dog sitting business, on the coast of Northern California.
“Business was great and after I graduated with honors from Animal Behavioral College, I was able to expand the business to include training. I was always a natural with dogs, but once I started formal training, I realized how much more I could do to be an effective trainer. My relationship with my own dogs benefited immensely and I was so pleased to be able to share my new found knowledge with my clients. I chose A.B.C. (Animal Behavior College) because I liked their training philosophy. The curriculum is based on positive motivational training methods and behavioral problem solving. The program begins by teaching students how to build a proper canine/human relationship. Creating a relationship built on positive interaction and consistency can often deter future unwanted behavior problems, facilitate faster learning and even solve some existing behavioral challenges. I am so lucky to say I am pursuing my true passion now. Life on television was great but my life with dogs is fantastic!

Larry Johnson was born in New Jersey and raised in California. Before realizing his dream of working with animals, he spent decades working in Silicon Valley as a Facilities Maintenance Technician and for the City of Half Moon Bay. As a student of Academy Art College in San Francisco, Larry always wanted to combine his creative talents with his love for animals. He realized his goals designing and creating some of the most fun facilities on our spacious ranch. “I can’t wait to meet your dogs and show them around the place!”
